Robert Neumann was born in Vienna in 1916. While he was studying in Geneva, the Nazis arrested him and sent him to a concentration camp. After his release he made his way to the United States.

He became a scholar of government and later served as U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan, to Morocco, and to Saudi Arabia. The Department of State's National Museum of American Diplomacy tells his story.
