George Muller escaped Austria in 1938 and arrived in the United States in June 1939.

He entered the Department of State in 1949. He served as an access officer in Berlin during the years of crisis from 1958 to 1962, as political-military counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok, and as political adviser to the commander of U.S. European Command. He recorded his career in an oral history for the Association for Diplomatic Studies and Training.
